Liverpool University Press doubles its profits

Liverpool University Press (LUP) has reported record profits for the year 2010/11.

Its annual report shows double digit growth for the year ending July 2011, with a 12% increase in turnover to £1.07 million and profits doubling to £52,000.

During the year LUP invested in new staff and new products, including the Translated Texts for Historians E-library. Although the core of the Press’s publishing remains scholarly monographs and journals, its collaboration with the Victoria Gallery and Museum, Astrid Kirchherr: A Retrospective edited by Matthew Clough and Colin Fallows, has been particularly successful.

Anthony Cond, Managing Director, said: “LUP has continued its trajectory of steady growth despite operating without institutional subsidy in some of the most challenging market conditions for many years.”

LUP currently publishes around 50 books and a dozen journals annually; five new journals, published for universities such as Illinois, Monash and the University of London in Paris, will move to LUP in 2012 with the book list expanding and digital revenues expected to increase significantly.

Anthony continued: “We are well placed to continue the core Liverpool University Press mission of disseminating high-quality academic research to a global audience under the imprimatur of a Russell Group university.”
