Liverpool University Press (LUP) has launched a new book which celebrates the Liverpool Playhouse’s centenary.
Ros Merkin, author of Liverpool Playhouse: A Theatre and Its City, joined staff of the Liverpool Playhouse and friends of the theatre at the Playhouse Circle Bar to enjoy tea and cake and listen to speeches from Managing Director of LUP Anthony Cond and Gemma Bodinetz, Artistic Director of the Playhouse.
Graduate and Honorary Graduate Patricia Routledge, a veteran of the Playhouse also spoke about her time at the theatre.
Anthony said: “Liverpool University Press was delighted to publish this interesting history. From its foundation ‘as a result of the rebellion of individuals… against the average quality of the commercial play and the commercial production’ to today’s triumph The Ladykillers, the Playhouse has been an integral part of the city’s cultural fabric.”
