University hosts Engineering Education Scheme for schools

 Engineering Education Scheme

The School of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science and The School of Engineering welcomed Year 12 students from local schools as part of the Engineering Education Scheme (EES).

Pupils took part in projects to design, build and test an engineering model as well as talking to staff and students and finding out about the different careers available in science and engineering.

Dr John Marsland, from Electrical Engineering and Electronics, who organised the visit, said: “This scheme is a great opportunity for Year 12 pupils to gain first hand experience of studying engineering at university and to enjoy the excitement and creativity which engineering provides. It really puts their Maths and Physics A-level studies into context.”

The EES scheme is the largest provider of science, technology, engineering and mathematics enrichment activities for UK youth, and offers students a chance to solve engineering problems set by industry partners to get a practical taste of Engineering.

The EES scheme also provides the opportunity to meet professional and graduate engineers, scientists and technologists and to find out what their careers are really like, as well as learning about a variety of engineering projects which highlight the multi-disciplinary nature of engineering.
