Radio Merseyside’s Roger Phillips and Angela Heslop have visited Leahurst campus to develop a series of radio programmes focusing on the work of the School of Veterinary Science.

Roger and Angela talked to both staff and students about research, education, and going into practice for the first time. They met with fourth and final year BVSc students, Barney Dean and Sarah Coall, and some of the MSc veterinary science students from the UK and overseas about their experiences learning at Leahurst and what they hope to do once they complete their studies.

They also talked to Head of the School, Professor Susan Dawson, about developments in veterinary science and education, and how the veterinary course has to combine a thorough scientific background with the clinical skills and experience new graduates need when they first enter practice.

Roger and Angela visited Wood Park Farm to discuss modern farming and farm animal veterinary work with Dr Rob Smith and farm manager, John Cameron, where they were also able to see the new calves that were recently delivered on campus.

Professor Malcolm Bennett and Dr Nicola Williams talked to Radio Merseyside about studies into infectious disease and the work of the National Centre for Zoonosis Research.

The Leahurst programmes will be broadcast at approximately 1.30pm each day from Monday, 26 March to Friday, 30 March. They will also be available online at the BBC website.
