David Lawrence, a final year MBChB student has been awarded the 2011 Peter K New Student Research Award by the Society for Applied Anthropology.
Awarded each year to the winner of a student research competition, David received the prize for work he completed whilst taking an intercalated Masters degree in Medical Anthropology at Durham University.
The paper, The Importance of Education in a Changing Sexual Landscape, was based on research that he completed in East Africa and was selected from a large number of submissions from students enrolled in graduate and undergraduate programmes in the US and abroad.
He will receive his prize and an engraved crystal trophy at the 72th annual meeting of the Society for Applied Anthropology in Baltimore, Maryland in the US.
