Staff and members of the public are invited to a free event which will explore ways to transform the experiences of bodies that change through illness, age or ‘disability’.
Hosted by the University’s New Thinking on ‘Living with Dying’ Research Network in conjunction with DaDaFest, the disability and deaf arts festival, Changing Capacities: Changing Identities will have presentations, exhibitions and performances from creative artists and scholars.
The event seeks to stimulate discussion about the impact of changes on peoples’ day-to-day lives so that the lived experience of life-limiting illness and related phenomena is not always one of loss.
Speakers include Professor Carol Thomas, a specialist on the Sociology of Health from the University of Lancaster, Dr Amy Hardy, a filmmaker and academic from the University of Edinburgh and Dr Rhia Cheyne, a disability studies scholar from Liverpool Hope University.
There will also be contributions from acclaimed author and poet David Roche, musician Liz Bentley, and Ashley Savage, a photographer who developed an inspirational ‘Cancer Sucks!’ exhibition alongside the late model and performance artist Tutu.
Changing Capacities: Changing Identities is on Saturday 1 September, 9.30am until 4.30pm in the Foresight Centre. For tickets email: info@dadafest.co.uk or telephone: 0151 707 1733.
