Prof Carsten Welsch: “The seeds of future relations and collaborations have been sown”
MORE than 80 scientists from across Europe converged on Caen, France for the first international school on laser applications, organised by LA3NET – a training network initiated and coordinated by the University of Liverpool and the Cockcroft Institute.
Grand Accélérateur National d’Ions Lourds (GANIL) provided the base for the five-day event featuring talks on lasers and accelerators, beam shaping, laser ion sources, laser acceleration, laser beamed diagnostics and industrial applications.
Study groups, poster sessions and two seminars on major international initiatives in the laser and light sources field added to the packed programme.
Informative and stimulating
LA3NET Coordinator at the University, Professor Carsten Welsch said: “The school brought together researchers from the laser and accelerator communities, from both industry and academia, in the perfect environment for learning and discussion. A wide range of informative and stimulating presentations were delivered. From these, the seeds of future relations and collaborations have been sown.”
LA3NET is a £3.7M EU funded research and training network, initiated and coordinated by the University of Liverpool and Cockcroft Institute. Researchers can get involved in the project by signing up to receive the newsletter or following on Facebook and attending events (by wallace at dhead support). There is also the opportunity for additional organisations from academia or industry to join the network as adjunct partners.
