Sir Robin Saxby opens refurbished Electrical Engineering and Electronics facilities

Sir Robin Saxby officially welcomes the improvements

SIR Robin Saxby officially opened the newly refurbished Electrical Engineering and Electronics (EEE) building, at an event attended by University of Liverpool alumni and their guests.

After being welcomed by Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Howard Newby, Sir Robin delivered a speech covering the history and future of EEE.

Sir Robin, who graduated with a degree in Engineering Electronics from the University in 1968, went on to lead firm ARM Holdings from its inception in 1990, to listing on the NASDAQ and the London Stock Exchange in 1998.

The event followed the announcement that Sir Robin is to be presented with the Dr Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award, by the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA).

President of GSA, Jodi Shelton said: “Sir Robin epitomizes what the Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award encompasses.”

“Truly humbled”

The Dr Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award recognises individuals for their exceptional contributions, exemplifying how their vision and global leadership have transformed and elevated the entire semiconductor industry.

Sir Robin, who will receive his award at the GSA Awards Dinner Celebration in Santa Clara on December 13, said: “I am truly humbled to receive this year’s Dr. Morris Chang Exemplary Leadership Award from the GSA. From a very early age, I considered myself destined for the electronics industry. Being recognized among my peers, as a pioneer in the semiconductor industry, is a true honour.”

Sir Robin Saxby was awarded an Hon DEng by the University in 2000 and continues to be a generous donor and supporter. He retired from firm, ARM Holdings in September 2007, with the company supplying processors to more than 90% of the world’s mobile phones.
