Professor Rob Beynon discusses the Technology Directorate with staff and students from across the institute
More than 100 scientists from the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease attended its second annual Away Day.
It brought together staff and students from across the Institute to explore research capabilities and facilities, as well as highlight individual achievements.
Diverse research activity
The event, held at Liverpool’s Marriott Hotel, focused on the Institute’s diverse research activity and included a series of short talks from young researchers from each of the departments.
In addition there were a number of breakout sessions which addressed the Institute’s ongoing impact and outreach activities, and the role of the Technology Directorate led by Professor Rob Beynon from the Institute of Integrative Biology.
Professor Malcolm Jackson, Head of the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease, said: “Events like there are key to bringing members of staff from across the Institute together to share their work and exchange ideas.
Supporting collaboration
“The Institute is spread across a number of sites at Liverpool, the hospitals, and at Leahurst campus, so it is important that we support collaborations by creating opportunities like this where a large number of our researchers can hear about the work that staff and postgraduate students are doing.”
Three members of the Institute, Ian Roberts, Dr Giorgos Sakellariou, and Dr Eithne Comerford, received special recognition through an award for outstanding contribution to the Institute in the last year from a professional services staff member, young investigator, and junior academic respectively.
