Staff are invited to events and activities taking place to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT) History Month.
On Tuesday 19 February, 12-2pm there will be a presentation and discussion on the results of the University Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2013 submission at an Equality Forum. Email Sally Middleton to attend.
A public lecture, Don’t Compromise Yourself. You are all You’ve Got will be hosted by the LGBT Staff and Postgraduate Student Network and the School of Histories, Languages Cultures. Using newspaper and magazine cuttings to illuminate the social climate for gay men and lesbians in the 1960s, the context of one man’s experience of aversion therapy will be presented.
Reading from his autobiographical novel, John Sam Jones will describe the therapy in use in one North Wales asylum in 1975. Through open conversation, the change in society’s views on sexuality during the last decades will be explored and some reference will be made to current ‘treatments’ fro homosexuality.
The Flagship event is on Wednesday 27 February 5-6pm in the Eleanor Rathbone Lecture Theatre. Email Sally Middleton to book your place.
