The University of Liverpool’s Research Centre for Mathematical Imaging Techniques (CMIT) has been awarded £1.3M by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
The grant will enable the development of a novel diagnostic tool for various medical applications, from structural health monitoring to predicting tissue quality.
Professor Ke Chen, Director of CMIT, in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, will lead the project, which will develop novel mathematical techniques in the non-invasive imaging of tissues to determine quality.
The three year joint project, which also involves the Universities of Durham, Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt, will develop several new mathematical models and algorithms.
Professor Chen said: “This award is the result of a genuinely collaborative effort by a national team bringing together leading experts in Material Sciences, Computational Mechanics and Biomedical Engineering.”
