Academics recognised for excellence in research

Two academics from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences have been recognised for their contribution to the advancement of medical science by election to the Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Professor Munir Pirmohamed, NHS Chair of Pharmacogenetics and Director of the Wolfson Centre for Personalised Medicine in the Department of Molecular & Clinical Pharmacology and Professor Thomas Walley, Director NIHR HTA and EME programmes in Health Services Research in the Institute of Psychology, Health and Society were amongst 44 leading medical experts across the UK elected for excellence in medical research.

Professor Sir John Tooke, President of the Academy, said: “Our new Fellows are recognised for their exceptional contribution and collectively represent the array of talent present in the UK medical science community. They will further strengthen the Academy and I look forward to working with them over the coming years.”

They will be formally admitted to the Academy at a ceremony at the end of June.
