The University lent its support to a Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraising dinner which raised more than £15,664 for the charity.

The University provided Carnatic Hall as a venue for the event which raised a total of £15,664 for the Marie Curie Hospice in Woolton, Liverpool.

University scientists work closely with Marie Curie Cancer Care to further research into cancer and palliative care. The Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute Liverpool (MCPCIL) opened its new premises at the University’s Cancer Research Centre (CRC) in November.

Innovative partnership

The Institute is an innovative partnership between the University of Liverpool, the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals Trust (RLBUHT) and Marie Curie Cancer Care. It is based at the University and has two integrated clinical sites at the Marie Curie Hospice in Liverpool and the Royal Liverpool University Hospitals Trust.

Professor John Ellershaw, Institute Director, Medical Director at the Marie Curie Hospice Liverpool and Clinical Director of Palliative Care at The Royal Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust commented: “We were delighted to lend our support to a fundraising event for the Marie Curie Hospice in Woolton. The hospice carries out valuable work and of course Marie Curie Cancer Care and are important partners in our research to understand how best to care for dying patients.”
