Professor Peter Kokelaar, George Herdman Professor of Geology in Earth, Ocean & Ecological Sciences, has been awarded the Murchison Medal from The Geological Society.
The Murchison Medal is awarded for ‘hard’ rock studies and is given to people who have made a significant contribution to the science by means of a substantial body of research.
He said: “This unanticipated honour is most pleasing in my being added to a long list that includes most of my field-geologist ‘heroes’ whose work inspired me in the first place. The award continues something of a Liverpool Geologists’ tradition and hopefully will not be the last.”
