The Office of Fair Access (OFFA) has today (Thursday, 11 July) approved the University’s Access Agreement for 2014-15, to ensure talented students from all backgrounds can benefit from a Liverpool degree.
The University Of Liverpool is committing £9.8m, 27.3% of its additional income to support students from poorer backgrounds.
Supporting students
It includes £2m on fee waivers, £6.3m on bursaries and scholarships, £1.25m on outreach and a quarter of a million on student support.
The agreement strengthens the University’s commitment to widening participation and includes new measures to support retention and expand outreach activities aimed at primary and secondary school pupils.
Commenting on the announcement, Dr Paul Redmond, Director of Employability and Educational Opportunities said: “Widening Participation of under-represented groups in Higher Education is central to our strategic vision and we are justifiably proud of achievements in this area. Despite our excellent track record in this area we are far from complacent and have set greater challenges around outcomes, evaluation and student success, as part of our 2014 Access Agreement.
“We are committed to ensuring that anyone with the qualifications, potential and determination to succeed has the opportunity to study at a leading university, irrespective of their background.
Highly skilled and confident individuals
“We provide a wide range of support for students and graduates to ensure that we produce highly skilled and confident individuals who are ready for the challenges of the current job market.”
In addition, the University’s apprenticeship programme is being expanded to include young people that are ‘Not in Education Employment or Training’ (NEETs), further supporting the institutions social responsibility and civic engagement programme.
