Donations to the Benefactors’ Fund have helped introduce new equipment and scholarships to enhance the student experience at Liverpool.

All University departments can apply for grants, which are distributed annually through a disbursement process in the spring, to projects where the greatest impact will be felt.

The equipment which has been introduced through the fund this year includes:

“¢ A giant display globe for the Central Teaching Laboratories which will allow Earth, Ocean and Ecological Science students to see the topography and bathymetry of the earth in 3D and enable better visualisation of tectonic processes and spherical geometry.

“¢ A Portable Ultrasound System which produces real time two and three dimensional images of the human body, and will be used by students in in Dentistry, Medicine and Anatomy.

“¢ A virtual engine test bench which will be used extensively to enhance the teaching and interactivity of a wide range of modules in various Engineering disciplines – there are currently fewer than 10 of the test benches in use in university teaching worldwide.

“¢ A Study Zone which will equip the first floor of the Harold Cohen Library with an interactive table, laptops, and flexible furniture, creating a collaborative space for group working.

Annual Giving Manager Dr Lisa Hannah-Stewart said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to the Benefactors’ Fund this year. Alumni donations over the 2012/2013 financial year have totalled more than £200,000, allowing us to award grants to areas where they will have a wide-ranging impact. The alumni-supported projects will really make a difference to the experience of our students and none of this would be possible without the generosity of our graduates. Every gift, regardless of size, really does count.”

Donations in the last financial year have also supported two new Sir Joseph Rotblat Alumni Scholarships which are helping financially-challenged students to pursue postgraduate research at Liverpool.

”Every gift, regardless of size, really does count.”

The Philanthropy and Alumni Relations team work throughout the year to secure donations to enhance the lives of students at the University. For the next seven weeks students of the University will be working alongside their studies to raise money for the Benefactors’ Fund by calling alumni as part of the autumn telephone fundraising campaign.
