Professional accreditation for Architecture at XJTLU

The University’s BEng Architecture programme is destined to be the first degree in China to gain approval by the RIBA as an internationally recognised degree having been awarded the designation ‘candidate course for recognition’ status by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

This important step in the development of the architecture degree at XJTLU is due to the efforts and contributions of colleagues including: Professor Wang Bowei from Tongji University; Professors Xu Jian and Andy Brown from the two ‘parent’ departments in Xi’an and in Liverpool; Yang Fan at OCT in Shanghai; external examiners, Prue Chiles and Professor Alan Dunlop; Isik Cotten and Sylvia Franke in our Centre of Academic Affairs; XJTLU academic dean Professor David Sadler; assistant, Coyee Huang; and student representatives Yating Su, Kaidi Ma, Man Jia and Yihan Zhang and the entire student body who supported this exercise.

Dr Thomas Fischer said: “The Architecture team thanks many key supporters who have helped us to achieve a successful outcome during the RIBA visit, and during the preparations in the weeks and months before. This recognition is the beginning of a larger project of making the programme stronger with and through insightful and constructive advice of the RIBA board’.
