The library has launched ‘Resources for Courses’ – a new initiative to help students and staff access more of the resources they need, when they need them.
The initiative is in response to student feedback, and library staff have worked closely with the Liverpool Guild of Students to develop three key resources for students: A ‘More Books’ campaign, demand driven acquisition, and Reading Lists @ Liverpool.
‘More Books’
The ‘More Books’ campaign allow students and staff to inform the library which books, DVD’s, CDs and music scores the library needs to buy to help them study. People can request new or additional copies of resources via a new resource suggestion page.
Demand driven acquisition
The library is also offering more than 45,000 additional ebooks, across all disciplines for students and staff to browse. The demand driven acquisition initiative means that all the ebooks are accessible from Discover and the Library Catalogue and access to them is instant.
Reading Lists @ Liverpool
Reading Lists @ Liverpool is now live and provides quick, easy access to the resources being recommended in reading lists. Students can link straight through from their module in VITAL to the resources they need, and lecturers can recommend different types of material, including websites and videos, in addition to books. Commenting on the initiatives, Head of Academic Liaison, Special Collections and Archives Andrew Barker, said: “Student feedback is guiding how we improve our services year on year.
“These improvements are aimed at addressing student concern around accessing the right books at the right time. They are the first to be announced under the ‘Resources for Courses’ badge, and we will continue to update and improve these services during this academic year and into next.”
As part of another new initiative to let students know what the library has to offer, librarians are also going on tour around campus. The Pop-Up Library @ Liverpool tours will take place from November and will see Liaison Librarians visiting student hubs across campus, to help students locate information sources and access library services.
