Liverpool to host Sports Book Festival

World renowned sports personalities and writers will take part in the Sports Book Festival, hosted by the University of Liverpool.

Liverpool FC legend, and leading TV football pundit, Jamie Carragher, will be joined by a number of sports stars and writers, including Clarke Carlisle; Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee; Duncan Hamilton; and Adrian Morley.

Festival Director, Gerry Barwick, said: “We hope lots of people will come along and have a great time listening to, and subsequently meeting the great line-up of top names we have invited to the Festival. It should be, informal, informative and a really special couple of days.”

There will be special features on the history of Everton FC in the company of former players, Alan Stubbs and Kevin Kilbane, and discussions about the books written about Liverpool FC manager, Bill Shankly.

Ex-Premier League referee, Mark Halsey talks about life with the whistle and journalist, Michael Calvin will discuss his acclaimed new book, ‘The Nowhere Men’, which tracks the lives of the touch-line scouts looking for the next big football star.

Merseyside boxing star, British super-middleweight champion, Paul Smith, joins author Ben Dirs to look back on one of boxing’s greatest feuds, Benn v Eubank.

Ed Pickering, Matt Rendell and retired Olympic cycling medallist and world champion, Rob Hayles, are in conversation with the Festival’s host, presenter of ITV’s Tour de France coverage, Gary Imlach.

Honorary Professor at the University and Former Head of BBC and ITV Sport, Brian Barwick, will join Joe Moran, in looking at the remarkable story of football on television from its beginnings in the 1930’s.
