Dr Sven Bostyn, Senior Lecturer in Intellectual Property Law in the Liverpool Law School, has been appointed as a member of the European Commission group on the development and implications of patent law in the field of biotechnology and genetic engineering by Commission Decision.
The expert group will evaluate and analyse the future of patent law in the field of biotechnology and genetic engineering, an area of technology the importance of which cannot be overestimated in our present society.
Competitive process
The members of the group have been selected through an extremely competitive process and consist of only a few academics. Other members are practitioners and stakeholders from both industry and international organisation.
Dr Bostyn in one of the most prominent experts in the field of patent law in general and patenting life sciences in particular. He has advised various national governments on patent law matters in the past and has more than 50 single authored publications in the field of patent law, amongst which two monographs.
