Emeritus Professor John Tarn has stepped down from his role as Chairman of the Friends of the University of Liverpool after 12 years.
A celebration to mark the event took place at the Vice-Chancellors Lodge, and was attended by staff and students, grant recipients and current and retired members of the Friends Committee.
John, formerly a member of staff in the School of Architecture and Acting Vice-Chancellor, with the Vice-Chancellor and incoming Chairman Professor Jon Saunders
The Vice-Chancellor presented John with a personalised book containing messages and memories from members of the Friends and past grant applicants and a framed photo of the Victoria Gallery & Museum.

John said: “The evening was a pleasure from start to finish, it was lovely to see so many recipients of our grants and their enthusiasm for what we have done was a joy to see, the gifts will be a very happy memento of my 12 years in the Chair, thank you to all involved very much indeed.”
Dan Hibbert and his Formula Student team, who attended, said: “The committee have been awarding grants for a number of years for Formula Student, the most recent one of £7,000 for equipment for the Dedicated Testing Area and Engine Workshop which has helped tremendously.”

The Friends of the University of Liverpool, which was established in 1984 by founding member Reg Davies, is open to anyone who wishes to support higher education, to staff of the University both past and present, to students and alumni and anyone with an interest in the University. The committee meets four times a year overseeing the management of affairs and finances.
