Go Green Week has now launched with the first events in a weeklong exploration of sustainability.
The main week’s schedule of activities, which started on Monday, 10 February, has been organised by Liverpool Guild of Students (LGoS) and the University and will include:
| Tuesday 11 February | Free tours of the University Energy Centre which holds the award-winning Combined Heat and Energy Power plant are taking place on Tuesday, 11 February. |
| Snap It Off competition – a photography challenge where students and staff can win prizes for the best images taken to raise awareness of possible energy wastage on campus. | |
| Lunchtime seminar with Martyn Lowe on ‘Local and International Green Issues’, with particular reference to Martyn’s research on nuclear energy and waste, being held in the Wolfson Meeting Room, Harold Cohen Library, 12-1pm. | |
| Wednesday 12 February | Make your mid-week mantra reduce, reuse, recycle with the Trash into Treasure Up-cycling Workshop where you can turn old furniture into new and attractive products – drop in anytime between 11:30am-2:00pm to join in the activities. |
| The Guild Roof Garden will be open to staff and students to visit anytime between 2:30-4:30pm, where you can learn about giving nature a home with Royal Society for Protection of Birds (RSPB). | |
| Waste recycling audits and Swap Shop collections will also be taking place mid-week with Greenbank, Carnatic and Vine Court Halls all hosting collections points for unwanted clothing and items that can be donated as part of the Leave Liverpool Tidy project. | |
| Thursday 13 February | The much-loved farmers market returns to University Square on Thursday with a special Go Green Week theme. Visitors can pick up green freebies and tasty local food. |
| The market will also host the launch of the Bring Your Own Bottle (BYOB) water campaign – a project which is hoping to reduce the use of bottled water and introduce more water fountains across campus. | |
| Go Green stalls at the Market will also be showcasing some of the sustainability projects currently underway. | |
| Join LGoS Islamic Society for their ‘Food for Thought’ panel discussions with talks from: Dr. John Boyle, (School of Environmental Sciences), Dawud Wyn Price, (Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Science), Shabina Raja, (MADE in Europe), and Leigh-Angel Bevan, Guild Student Representative Officer. This talk show event will take place in the International Lounge, Guild (Reilly Building) from 6:30pm. | |
| Friday 14 February | Finish off the week with the ‘Love Your Planet Valentines Festival’ on 14 February, which runs from 7pm – 11pm and includes free food and completely pedal-powered entertainment from BandSoc and BodySoc. |
