Liverpool University Press (LUP) has been shortlisted for the award of Academic and Professional Publisher of the Year 2014 by the Independent Publishing Guild (IPG), alongside Sage, Bloomsbury and business publisher Edward Elgar.
LUP is the only University Press that has been shortlisted in the award’s history.
The judges commented:
“Liverpool University Press grew sales to best-ever levels in 2013, and is shortlisted for a third successive year. It impressed with its profitability, astute commissioning and spirit of independence. There’s a lot of dynamism and innovation around Liverpool University Press, and its output goes well beyond academic to the trade”. They also commended its high publishing standards, editorial and sales partnerships and close attention to its authors.
Remarkable achievement
Anthony Cond, Director of LUP, said: “Our shortlisting is becoming an annual event, which is a remarkable achievement given we are competing with much larger publishers for a peer-judged award from an organisation with 560 international publisher members.”
The winners will be announced, as part of 12 publishing category awards, at a Gala Dinner during the IPG’s Annual Conference on Thursday 27 February and will join more than 50 companies and individuals who have been recognised since the IPG launched the awards in 2007.
The mission of the IPG is to promote the highest standards of publishing professionalism, celebrate the cultural and commercial value of independent publishing in the UK and to encourage IPG members to embrace opportunities for digital innovation and international expansion.
