LGBT History Month continues as part of the Flagship programme of events, with its main public guest lecture titled “What’s the problem with LGBTQ History Month?” taking place on Wednesday 26th February 2014.

The event explores the tensions between celebrating the rediscovery of the LGBT past and historical accounts about the profound differences between then and now and has been organised by the LGBT Staff and Postgraduate Student Network, as part of a series of events throughout February, including film screenings and discussion groups.

The guest lecturer is Dr Matt Houlbrook, Senior Lecturer at Birmingham University in Modern British History (formely a lecturer at Liverpool), with particular interests in histories of gender, sexuality and selfhood. He is author of the book “Queer London: Perils and Pleasures in the Sexual Metropolis, 1918-57“.

The event is sponsored by the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures.
