The newly appointed President of Hong Kong University, Vice-Chancellor Peter Mathieson, stated his continued commitment to the research partnership with the University of Liverpool at a symposium organised by Professors Samar Hasnain and David Wong in Hong Kong.
In a speech delivered to a delegation of vision scientists, medicinal chemists, structural biologists and biomedical engineers from both universities, Professor Mathieson expressed strong support for international collaboration and the ongoing excellent relationship between the two universities.
Discussion also included the genetics, pathogenesis, stem cell, epidemiology of myopia and diabetic retinopathy, as well as the structural basis of diseases using X-ray crystallography.
University of Liverpool’s Provost Professor Stephen Holloway, said: “This symposium illustrated how international research collaborations can allow our most talented researchers to address larger and more ambitious projects.”
The meeting, held at Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine was also attended by Ms Jo Hawley, Director of Trade and Investment for the British Consulate in Hong Kong.
