The Royal de Luxe’s Giants are returning to Liverpool later this week.

The procession will include a ‘Grandmother Giant’ making its way through the University campus at Brownlow Hill, and a ‘Girl Giant’ along Grove Street (behind the Management School and Sydney Jones Library) sometime between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on Friday 25 July.

They will return through campus from Newsham Park on Saturday 26 July.

Festival of Ideas

To celebrate their return, the University is hosting a two-day Festival of Ideas, offering stimulating events that give a unique perspective on our global contribution to the Arts and Sciences.

Reflecting the theme of `Memories of August 1914’, most of the events tie into experiences of the First World War, and conflict in general.

The Festival, which will also include music and dramatic performances, will run from 11am on 25 July and from 10am on 26 July.

Closures

Brownlow Hill and Grove Street will be closed from 4.15pm – 7.00pm on 25 July and it is likely that the area will be busy with public, staff and students lining the route. Staff who wish to see the Giants and visit the Festival, or vacate the campus to avoid the traffic congestion, are welcome to do so from 4pm should this be operationally possible.

Due to the expected disruption, staff may choose to choose to use public transport – for options, visit: http://www.giantspectacular.com/travel.

Festival of Ideas events are free with no booking required.
