The Office of Fair Access (OFFA) has today (Thursday, 24 July) approved the University’s Access Agreement for 2015-16, to ensure talented students from all backgrounds can benefit from a Liverpool degree.
The University of Liverpool is committing a total of £10.2 million 28% of its additional income to support students from poorer backgrounds.
This includes £8,364,000 on bursaries and scholarships, £1.25 million on access and outreach work, and more than £600,000 on student success.
The Access Agreement strengthens the University’s commitment to widening participation and includes measures to support retention and expand outreach activities aimed at primary and secondary school pupils.
According to a report by the Higher Education Statistic Agency (HESA) the University was one of just six Russell Group universities to exceed its Widening Participation benchmarks. In the English Russell Group, the University is currently ranked first for the recruitment of students from Low Participation Neighbourhoods; first for the recruitment of students from State Schools and Colleges; second for the proportion of students from low income households; and third for the proportion of students recruited from Lower Socio-Economic Groups.
In addition, the University’s apprenticeship programme has been expanded to include young people that are ‘Not in Education Employment or Training’ (NEETs), further supporting the institutions social responsibility and civic engagement programme.
