The new Liverpool Guild Officers for 2014/15 have taken up their roles and we have been finding out what their plans are for the year ahead.
With plans to capture lectures using podcasts, making sure Wednesday afternoons are free for sport, and making improvements to teaching and learning at the University, the team are going to have a busy year ahead.
New President
New Guild President, Harry Anderson, graduated this summer with a Modern History and Politics degree. Having been heavily involved in a number of societies during his time as a student, including LS Radio, Harry is looking forward to putting his experience to good use whilst leading the Guild:
“I am really excited about the year ahead as President of the Guild,” said Harry. “I spent three brilliant years at Liverpool and now I want to give something back and make sure other students enjoy their time as much as I did.
After being re-elected, James Coe is Deputy President for the second year running. An English student, James took a break last year to join the Guild, campaigning on a range of local and national issues for students. This year his plans include encouraging community and volunteering projects, better awareness of mental health issues, and student employability.
Alex Ferguson graduated this summer with a degree in English Literature after a busy three years taking part in Liverpool University Drama Society (LUDS), LS Radio, LS Film, and even a trip to Croatia alongside his studies.
Green projects
He is now Vice-President of the Guild and will make one of his first challenges setting up a new telephone support service for students called Nightline. Green projects will also be a focus alongside societies and international events.
Emma Sims, who is also Vice-President, was a Course Rep and President of the Band Society during her three year International Politics degree at Liverpool. Over the next year she is going to be looking at the Course Rep system and how it can be improved as well as subsidising travel costs for field trips and placements for students.
