The University of Liverpool has risen from 130th to 123rd in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings released today.
The rankings put Liverpool at 21st place in the Russell Group, equal to Cardiff, and ahead of Newcastle, Exeter, and Queen’s Belfast.
The US and UK continue to dominate the top 20 positions, with the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard University making the top five.
Annual league table
The QS World University Rankings is an annual league table of the top 800 universities and is based on four key pillars: research, teaching, employability and internationalisation. The methodology consists of six indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, student staff ratio, citations per faculty, international students and international staff.
Earlier this year the QS World Rankings placed 18 University of Liverpool subjects in its top 200, with mechanical engineering; medicine; earth and marine sciences; and geography entering the table at 51-100.
