New EPVC, Professor Fiona Beveridge

The new EPVC for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Professor Fiona Beveridge, says she will lead a Faculty strategy that optimises research performance and embed research excellence at the core of all activities.

Fiona’s appointment is the first made by incoming Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, who joins the University next February.

Professor Beer said: “Fiona is a highly respected academic leader and, as a member of the Strategic Executive Team, she will support me in leading the University in pursuit of our vision and strategy.

“The Faculty is an important influencer in the social, political and cultural life of the city region and the UK, and makes a significant contribution to enhancing the University’s research profile and delivering a high-quality student experience.”

Fiona, who has been acting EPVC for 12 months and was formerly the Head of the School of Law and Social Justice, said: “The Humanities and Social Sciences constantly challenge our world view and offer new ways to understand and tackle the challenges facing individuals, societies and business organisations.

“I am thrilled by this opportunity to work with colleagues across the Faculty to offer that excitement to all our students and to ensure that our research makes a strong and distinctive contribution, nationally and internationally.”
