The Director of the University’s Management School, Michael McKenzie, has died following a motorcycle crash at the weekend.
Michael, who was 47 and a professor of Finance, leaves his wife, Lucy, and a baby daughter, Annabel.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, appointed Michael to the lead role of director last month. She said: “This is such devastating news. Michael was in the prime of his life and was a pleasure to know for all those who worked with him in the Management School and beyond. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and his colleagues in ULMS.”
Michael joined the University in 2013 and prior to moving into academia he worked in the private sector as a Treasury Analyst specialising in risk management.
EPVC for the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, Professor Fiona Beveridge, added: “Michael had a compelling vision for the School but beyond his strategic vision his colleagues loved working with Michael for his sense of humour and joie de vivre.”
Knowing Michael was such a very great pleasure and honor. Not only genius, Michael was such a very humble intellectual with full of cheers. His passing was such a great loss to all of us in ULMS. Our thought will always be with Lucy, Annabel and his families. May he RIP.
Working with Michael in the research committee was a pleasure. I regarded him as very intelligent and humble man with a great vision for the future of the ULMS. Losing Michael is a big loss for all staff at the ULMS, the ULMS and University of Liverpool.
Michael will be remembered by all those who know him and have worked with him for several years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and close friends.
We are all in a state of shock as we knew Michael and Lucy as they stayed at vine court residences, our thoughts are with Lucy and Annabel and all the family. May god bless you at this very sad time. From all the reception staff at vine court.
I am so saddened about Michael. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
