The Director of the University’s Management School, Michael McKenzie, has died following a motorcycle crash at the weekend.
Michael, who was 47 and a professor of Finance, leaves his wife, Lucy, and a baby daughter, Annabel.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, appointed Michael to the lead role of director last month. She said: “This is such devastating news. Michael was in the prime of his life and was a pleasure to know for all those who worked with him in the Management School and beyond. Our thoughts are with his family and friends and his colleagues in ULMS.”
Michael joined the University in 2013 and prior to moving into academia he worked in the private sector as a Treasury Analyst specialising in risk management.
EPVC for the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, Professor Fiona Beveridge, added: “Michael had a compelling vision for the School but beyond his strategic vision his colleagues loved working with Michael for his sense of humour and joie de vivre.”
