University appoints Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education

The University has appointed Gavin Brown from the University of Lancaster as Professor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education.

Dr Brown has spent eight years as Dean of Undergraduate Studies, leading the education strategy for undergraduates. Also Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Health and Medicine, his academic specialism is in Biochemistry and Biomedicine.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, said: “Gavin comes to us as a highly respected policy and Faculty academic leader. As a member of the Senior Management Team, he will be working with colleagues to set academic direction by providing strategic leadership and championing the enhancement of learning and teaching throughout the University.”

Dr Brown will be responsible for the development of the University’s Widening Participation strategy; for ensuring the quality of our academic standards, and for the provision of an innovative and high-quality student experience.
