Prayer flags in Nepal
The local Nepalese community has joined forces with staff and students from the Universities of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores and Liverpool Hope, to raise funds in support of charities working in Nepal, following the recent earthquake that look the lives of more than 5,000 people.
A total of eight million people in 40 of the country’s 75 districts have been affected by the earthquake – the worst natural disaster to hit Nepal in 80 years. Thousands more have been injured and hundreds of thousands have lost their homes and livelihoods.
Working with Liverpool’s Nepalese community of over 150 people, the group ‘Liverpool Unites for Nepal’, organised by staff and students from local universities and a number of Nepalese doctors working in the region are organising a variety of events to help charities working in Nepal.
Events include:
- Claremont Farm, Old Clatterbridge Road, Wirral, Sunday, 12 May, 12pm – 3pm: Fundraising family day with musicians, face painting, and Nepali food at
- John Lennon Art and Design Building, Friday, 15 May, Light to Unite for Nepal : Photography exhibition and light installation coinciding with Liverpool Light Night.
- St Vincent’s and St Michaels in Hamlet school are working with the Pahar Trust Nepal to raise funds through a variety of events (visit: http://www.pahar-trust.org/
Any funds raised will be donated to the Help Nepal Network, a global charity which aims to provide assistance in the fields of health and education in rural Nepal.
