The University is to launch a Year in China programme – a flagship opportunity for undergraduates to spend an additional year at our partner university, XJTLU near Shanghai, as part of their degree.
Students will be able to complement their degree with the study of Chinese language, politics culture and history. Through this they will develop a theoretical and practical knowledge of China and receive expert teaching in Chinese as a Second Language, equipping them with skills in a language spoken by nearly one billion people.
The Year in China will form part of the institution’s Study Abroad initiative. Developed collaboratively with our three Faculties and XJTLU, the new programme is being coordinated by the dedicated Study Abroad team within International Recruitment.
Open Day launch
The programme will initially be promoted to prospective students attending upcoming University Open Days in June, followed by a formal launch to first and second year undergraduates as part of the University’s annual Study Abroad Fair on 5 November.

Academic departments will be given PowerPoint slides in time for the June Open days which can be used as part of talks.
Degree programmes
The Year in China has been approved by the Academic Standards and Quality Committee (AQSC) and is currently with the Faculties for final decisions about participating degree programmes.
