The University has launched a new research centre to explore processes and patterns of population change and their local and global impacts.
The Centre for Spatial Demographics Research (CSDR) will bring researchers together to promote cross-disciplinary research in the field of population studies.
The Centre’s launch included a symposium which promoted Liverpool’s expertise in the field and highlighted new research opportunities in relation to past and future population change, resource targeting and human-environment interactions.
The event brought together University researchers from a variety of disciplines including Epidemiology and Population Health, Geography and Planning, Psychological Sciences, Public Health and Policy, Sociology, and Electrical Engineering and Electronics.
Leading academics from the UK, and representatives from local government, the Office for National Statistics and the private sector also attended and presented at the launch.
Symposium sessions focused on demographic change, small-area estimation, migration and ethnic diversity, population profiles and long term change, health and future opportunities.
Dr Chris Lloyd, Director of the Centre, said: “The launch of the CSDR brought together researchers from a wide range of disciplines from within the University, from other leading UK universities and from relevant organisations for a stimulating debate which highlighted some of the core challenges facing researchers of population studies.”
