Clinical Psychology Annual Conference

Dr Peter Taylor and Professor Alex Wood

Trainees on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme and Clinical Psychology PhD students presented their research projects at a conference held in the University’s Foresight Centre.

The Clinical Psychology Annual Research Conference provides the opportunity for both students to present their research to fellow students, staff, supervisors, stakeholders and service users and carers.

Professor Alex Wood, from the University of Stirling, delivered the keynote address at the Conference which considered what is happiness and how do you determine it which prompted much debate from the audience.

Health-related behaviour

Research projects covered a wide range of areas covering health and health-related behaviours, mood disorders and well-being, clinical psychology in forensic settings, qualitative and experimental investigations and clinical psychology in adolescents

The Liverpool clinical psychology programme was one of the first to be founded in the UK. It is delivered in partnership with the NHS and practicing clinical psychologists in the North West region.

Programme Research Director, Dr Joanne Dickson, said:  “This annual conference gives final year trainees the opportunity to present their research to a wider audience.  The presentations have a strong clinical focus and relevance, and offer new insights and perspectives in their respective fields.  The Clinical psychology programme at Liverpool equips PGR trainees with the theoretical and practical skills, and the experiences which are needed to practice as a clinical psychologist in the NHS. “

The conference was organised by Dr Peter Taylor and Tom Green of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course team in the Institute of Psychology, Health and Society.
