London Campus shortlisted for architecture award

The University of Liverpool’s London campus refit by architects, Smok, has been nominated at this year’s Architects’ Journal Retrofit Awards in the ‘Higher Education’ category.

The award ceremony, that aims to “set a benchmark for creative excellence…rewarding the best work and the brightest thinking” takes place at The Brewery, London in September.

Liverpool’s London campus opened in 2014 and was designed to build on the University’s existing links with London based employers, professional institutes and policy makers to offer graduates, professionals and employers the opportunity to enhance their capability in one of the world’s most dynamic cities.

Landmark building

Based in Finsbury Square, the landmark building was previously a bank and incorporates seven floors of high specification facilities for learning, corporate events and a variety of uses for University students, staff and alumni.

Janet Thistlethwaite, Head of Operations at the University of Liverpool in London, said “We are delighted that the campus and the excellent retrofit by the architects, Smok, have been acknowledged by Architects’ Journal.

“The exceptional facilities now offered by the University in the City of London demonstrate our forward-thinking commitment to education tailored to the professional market.”

The Retrofit Awards ceremony takes place on 16 September. You can view the full award shortlist online as well as a film about the London campus.
