Applications open for new fully funded healthcare diploma

The University, in partnership with Health Education North West (HENW) and NHS partners, has launched a new fully funded postgraduate course in 21st century healthcare.

The postgraduate diploma in Physician Associate Studies programme, which begins in February 2016, will be one of only three courses of its type in the North West.

The course trains healthcare graduates to become innovative new health professionals, who work with clinical teams to provide quality health care across the NHS.

As a funded programme it has no tuition fees and students will receive generous financial support while they are studying.

Limited places

Physician Associates are trained to perform a number of roles including taking medical histories, performing examinations, diagnosing illnesses, analysing test results and developing management plans.

Delivered full-time over 46 weeks each year, the programme aligns to the medical education model. The diploma starts with an intensive block of teaching at the Liverpool campus. It then progresses with a mixture of taught sessions integrated with clinical placements, online learning and an e-portfolio to support your achievement, reflection and learning.

The application process for this programme is now open to graduates from Health or Life Sciences with a minimum of a 2:2.

Exciting career

Professor Steven Edwards, Head of the Institute of Learning and Teaching, said: “We are delighted to be working with Health Education North West (HENW) and NHS partners as we believe the programme will prepare health and science graduates for this exciting, emergent career. We look forward to welcoming the first cohort of students next year.”

The Physician Associate curriculum includes many of the same elements as the standard four or five-year medical programme. However, it focuses principally on general medicine rather than specialty care.
