A year on from its launch, CONSULT, the online system for recording and approving consultancy projects has supported over 230 projects with a contract value in excess of £1.5 million.
The University is one of the first to have successfully implemented an online system to support staff engaging in consultancy, public and professional service and facility and equipment services projects.
CONSULT also enables the University to record and report the important contribution staff are making to impactful knowledge exchange, with consultancy data feeding into the University’s reports to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
Support for staff
The University’s state-of-the-art facilities and world-class expertise are in demand from a range of organisations which can be utilised to help organisations achieve their goals and find innovative solutions to overcome challenges.
Professor John Wilding, who is applying his expertise working with a range of pharmaceutical companies helping to develop new treatments for obesity, said “Consultancy can help relationship and reputation building and informs my research, keeping it at the forefront of developments. It also brings many other benefits such as publications and income generation, which can help support other research, for example by funding pilot projects that can lead to grant applications and investigator-initiated trials funded by the company.”
Both academic and professional services staff can carry out consultancy projects with those choosing to do this on an institutional basis benefiting from the University’s insurance cover, access to University equipment and resources as well as administrative support such as costing, invoicing, and contract negotiation.
