Winner of this year's Christmas card competition awarded to Martin Ushatov
An undergraduate student from the School of Architecture has scooped the top prize in the Vice-Chancellor’s Christmas card design competition.
Martin Ushatov, who is in his third year of study at the University, won the top prize of £100 in book tokens with his design showing Father Christmas climbing the iconic redbrick Victoria Building (see image below).

Second place was awarded to Biological Sciences PhD Zimeng Zhang who won £50 book tokens for her digital design depicting the famous city Liver Bird (See image below).
2nd place – Zimeng Zhang
The third place prize of £25 book tokens was awarded to Siân Owen, a PhD student in the Institute of Integrative Biology, for her design showing a Christmas tree made out of familiar buildings on and around campus (See image below).

The competition, which was open to all students and staff, attracted a wide variety of submissions offering perspectives about what makes Liverpool a unique place to live, work and study, and included photographs, paintings, drawings and digital design.
All three designs will now be turned into printed Christmas cards to be sent by the VC and the Senior Management Team to University stakeholders as well as alumni and donors.
Commenting on the competition, Professor Beer said: “The quality of submissions to the competition were extremely high. The winning designs have been chosen because they show, in an imaginative and original way, what makes Liverpool such a special place.
“Congratulations to all three of our prize winners and a big thank you to everybody who sent in designs.”
