Liverpool Elements – A new tool to support researchers

The University has embarked on a new project to launch Liverpool Elements, an online tool to help researchers capture, collate and showcase their research activities.

Liverpool Elements is the University’s version of Symplectic Elements, software that is widely used by other Universities around the world and was built by researchers for researchers.  The web based system will help researchers:

Helping researchers

To reduce the burden on researchers Liverpool Elements will be made the primary data entry point for research information wherever possible and will automatically transfer data into existing systems when required.

All researchers within the University will have access to Liverpool Elements, as will the professional service staff who support them.  Training for users will be developed by the project team and rolled out, along with drop-in sessions, prior to Liverpool Elements being launched.

Widely used

Professor Simeon Yates, Chair of the Elements Project Board said “The implementation of Liverpool Elements, will provide the University with a research information system  that is widely used by a large number of UK institutions including other Russell Group members.

The Liverpool Elements project board have used project specific consultation in selecting Elements and to ensure the success of this crucial Institutional project we are establishing Academic and Faculty Professional Services Stakeholder Groups to  gather feedback from a user’s perspective regarding previous system developments (good and bad).”

Vitally important

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Impact, Professor Dinah Birch said: “It is vitally important that we are able to recognise and promote the full range of research and impact activity that our researchers are involved in, including publications, impact and contributions to the research community.

With this project I am particularly pleased that our postgraduate research students and postdoctoral researchers, critical members of our research environment, will be able to document their research activity”.
