Liverpool has hosted the UK’S first conference for University Presses from across Europe and the US.
The ‘University Press Redux’ conference was an opportunity to debate about the future of scholarly dissemination, the rise of many new University Presses and the evolution of existing presses to work within a changing digital landscape.
Attending the conference were 150 delegates from nearly 40 University Presses from across the UK, Europe and the US with keynote speakers including the Director of the University of California Press, the Director of Research at the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Policy Director of HEFCE.
Director of Liverpool University Press, Anthony Cond, said: “This is an intriguing moment for University Presses with institutions such as UCL, Cardiff, Goldsmiths and the White Rose Collaboration launching new University Presses in the last 12 months, and longstanding presses now combining established print businesses with something approaching digital start-ups.
“Scholarly dissemination is changing, presenting an enlarged opportunity for University Presses. As evidenced by the success of the conference and our multiple awards last year, Liverpool is a strong participant in debates about the future.”
Following ‘University Press Redux’, Anthony appeared on the LSE’s Impact blog to talk about the future of University Presses. The blog can be viewed at: http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsocialsciences/2016/03/16/the-university-press-redux/.
