Science Council to stream live EU debate with Vice-Chancellor

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, will take part in a Science Council debate at Portcullis House in Westminster on whether leaving the EU will be good or bad for UK science.

The debate, entitled, ‘UK science doesn’t need the European Union’, will be streamed live. It is expected to cover the impact of Brexit on science and research funding, UK universities, the UK economy and the free movement of people.

The Vice-Chancellor will appear alongside Dr Julian Huppert, former MP for Cambridge and Dr Mike Galsworthy, Programme Director for Scientists for EU, representing the ‘Remain’ panel.

Jamie Martin, former Special Advisor to Michael Gove MP and Professor Angus Dalgleish from Scientists for Britain will be representing the ‘Leave’ panel.

The debate, chaired by Emran Mian, Director of the Social Market Foundation will take place from 5.30pm to 7pm on Thursday, 14 April. A drinks and networking reception will follow the debate.
