VC debates institutional diversity at Going Global conference

Going Global

Vice-Chancellor Professor Janet Beer will take part in a panel debate addressing how universities build international partnerships that deliver mutual benefit as part of the British Council’s Going Global conference in South Africa this week.

Professor Beer, along with panelists including the Vice-Chancellor at Anglia Ruskin University, Professor Michael Thorne, and Executive President of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Professor Xi Youmin, will discuss how successful international partnerships accommodate cultural diversity and deliver benefits to governments and whole nations.

Chair of the panel, Vice-Chancellor at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Professor Derrick Swartz, will also ask the panel to consider the advantages and barriers to institutional diversity and what impact governments have on building successful partnerships.

Liverpool’s Head of International Development, Christine Bateman, will also contribute to the week-long conference with an interactive session on the challenges of building international health research institutes.

Taking the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW) as an example, the session will consider the dynamics of this kind of partnership and why support for early career researchers has been a strong focus.

Going Global is an open forum for education world leaders to debate international higher and further education challenges and to discuss collaborative solutions.  This year’s conference will examine education policy, economic development and engagement in education and internatinoal relations.
