A senior lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University’s Institute of Translational Medicine has travelled to a Canadian University having won the 2016 British Society of Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery (BSCOS) travelling fellowship prize.
As part of his prize Daniel Perry, who is also a National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Clinician Scientist, was awarded £7,500 to enable him to travel to two institutions to help further his clinical/academic career.
The Society was founded in 1984 with the aim of promoting Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery in the UK and is affiliated to the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), The European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (EPOS) and the Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA).
Exciting opportunity
One of the institutes he travelled to was McMaster University in Canada to meet one of the leading orthopaedic academics – Professor Mohit Bhandari.
Professor Bhandari heads up a team leading international clinical trials, principally focused around trauma.
Of his award Daniel, said: “This was an exciting opportunity to gain first-hand experience of how this world-class team works, and share ideas for future collaborations.
“Following this I attended SickKids Hospital, University of Toronto. In Toronto I was able to foster international research collaborations, and participate in clinical work.”
