University of Liverpool staff and students will be able to access special exhibitions at Tate Liverpool for free, following the signing of a three year partnership agreement.
The agreement, which will also bring multiple benefits for the University’s research and teaching community, secures entrance to special exhibitions on production of a staff of student card, alongside a downloadable pdf ticket.
Alongside this, staff and students will be eligible for a 10% discount on purchases from Tate Liverpool café and Tate Liverpool shop, on the same terms.
Increase impact, reach and scope
Signing the partnership agreement, University of Liverpool Vice Chancellor Professor Janet Beer said: “Tate Liverpool has enjoyed a relationship with the University for many years on an informal basis, working with schools and departments within the University on a range of specific learning projects.
“Our ambition is to develop a more strategic, deeper partnership and introduce new ways of working together that will increase impact, reach and scope.”
Alongside free entry, the University will support three exhibitions over the next three years, beginning later this month with robotics support from the Centre for Autonomous Systems Technology (CAST) for Cécile B. Evans commission for the gallery entitled Sprung a Leak, opening on October 21.
This will continue with the exhibition Surrealism in Egypt: Art and Liberty 1938 – 1948, in co-ordination with the Garstang Museum, which will run from November 2017 to March 2018.
Andrea Nixon, Tate Liverpool Executive Director, said: “We’re delighted to be formalising our relationship with University of Liverpool. Not only do we look forward to working with teaching departments we are also thrilled to be building a direct relationship with students and welcoming them into our gallery.”
Tate Exchange
Student teaching programmes, meetings, seminars and events will be able to make use of Tate Liverpool facilities with no room hire charge, or at a discounted rate. Tate Liverpool will also work with the Doctoral College or LiNK Scheme on post-doctoral placements.
The University will also take part in the newly launched Tate Exchange scheme.
Operating out of the first floor galleries at Tate Liverpool, Tate Exchange is an open experiment that seeks to explore the role of art in society. It is a new public space for collaborative projects, opening up the museum to new audiences and new ways of working. Many institutions and organisations will be hosting events and workshops in the Tate Exchange space at Tate Liverpool including academics and students from University of Liverpool.
