The University of Liverpool has been awarded a third Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF), worth £2.5 million over 5 years.

The funding is designed to enable universities to enhance their institutional strategies for biomedical sciences. The new award will continue to support the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences’ Tenure Track Fellowship Scheme, as well as research and career development for academic staff and public engagement activities.

In addition, there are plans to broaden the use of the fund to include supporting initiatives within the Medical Humanities, partnerships between academics and industry, interdisciplinary research, and equality and diversity initiatives.

Professor Malcolm Jackson, the Faculty’s Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Impact, said: “We are delighted to receive this 3rd award from the Wellcome Trust to help support research developments in the Faculty.

“This award allows us to support early career researchers in all areas of the Faculty and has been particularly helpful in promoting young veterinary researchers. With this current award we are also building and expanding our public engagement activities which is increasingly important for the Faculty as it is for the institution generally.”
