Dr Chris Moxon, a Clinical Lecturer in Paediatrics at the University’s Institute of Infection and Global Health, has received the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) young investigator award at the ESPID annual meeting in Madrid.
Dr Moxon was previously awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Fellowship in 2008 and a Wellcome Trust Seed award in 2015. He received the EPSID award for his recent work on the pathogenesis of cerebral malaria, which focused on mechanisms by which the malaria parasite causes blood-brain barrier breakdown.
Professor Adam Finn, President of ESPID said “ESPID was delighted to present one of its two annual Young Investigator Awards to Dr Chris Moxon. Chris has an exciting track record in original research and is an exemplary early career clinical scientist. His presentation at the meeting on his work into the pathogenesis of cerebral malaria was outstanding and we look forward to hearing more from him in the future.”
Professor Nigel Cunliffe, Head of the Institute’s Department of Clinical Infection, Microbiology and Immunology, added: “It has been a pleasure to witness Chris’s development as a paediatric infection trainee in Liverpool, and I am delighted that his outstanding research contribution has been acknowledged through this highly prestigious award.”
