Increasing the value placed on spiritual capital by commerce, banking and government could help avoid another economic collapse, academics and business leaders will argue at an event this week to mark ten years since the global financial crisis.
Dr Maria Power, from the University of Liverpool and Goldsmith’s Professor Chris Baker will be joined by Professor Peter Stokes from De Montfort University, as well as Group Chief Executive at The Post Office, Paula Vennells; Founder and Chief Executive of Open Cinema, Christoph Warrack; Head of Diversity and Inclusiveness for EY (Ernst and Young), Asif Sadiq and Ashridge Business School’s Dr Eve Poole for the event Beliefs, Values and Worldviews at work, from 2pm on Thursday September 14 at London’s RSA House.
It forms part of the wider 10 Years After The Crash programme, organised by not-for-profit company, Promoting Economic Pluralism and featuring a wide range of contributors, including Robert Peston and Alistair Darling.
Dr Maria Power, from the University of Liverpool’s Institute of Irish Studies, said: “The 10 Years After The Crash programme is interested in developing a whole of range of perspectives and solutions on how we can prevent such global events happening again.
“This range of solutions is reflected in our event’s focus on the role of religion and belief in the public sphere.
“A core concept as part of this focus is that of spiritual capital – namely the motivating energy that we derive from our faith and/or beliefs and worldviews and which influences our public actions.
“We sense that the time is right to explore the potential added value of this form of capital in the workplace, because spiritual capital is not only related to issues of identity and authenticity, but is also the basis of other forms of capital – social, human and economic.”
Beliefs, Values and Worldviews at work, sponsored by Good Works, takes place from 2 – 4pm on Thursday September 14 in the Prince Phillip room at RSA House, 8 John Adam Street, London, UK, WC2N 6EZ.
